Watchmen a graphic novel Deconstructed
Watchmen was published at a time when the genre was dominated by comic superheroes and anti-heroes with black and white view of right and wrong. It is a parody of Superman in dystopia. A combination of darkness, pulp, and comic book style deconstructed, by Alan Moore and Dave Gibbon offers something that meets the needs of comic fans and ordinary readers.
Watchmen is not your typical graphic novel. It is a challenge all the others in the genre conventions of comics and deviates from the usual larger than life comic book characters who have come to know. Instead of an alien krypton or a dark knight bat mobile Watchmen offers a different set of superheroes with insecurities, flaws, and emotional disturbances.
The graphic novel is a bit of a contradiction. On the one hand, this scheduled for a wider range of hearing, but this does not make easier the graphic novel read. It is designed to be read more than once. Watchmen brings to readers in a dynamic state, in a questioning mode of thinking. Each meeting with this comic causes a different response from readers. As told by Moore and Gibbon in an interview, had the intention of the graphic novel to hold a different meaning to different people.
Art and the structure of the graphic novel are equally fascinating and original content. Watchmen has features never seen before the comic and put half their strengths to the fore. In an interview, Moore said: "What I would like to explore are the areas that comics succeed in where no other medium can do. "graphic novel ultimately became different from the movies.
What is more unique is that art which exploits the use of billboards. The creators really intended the panels to be different from other comic books. The use of symbolism is also great with reference to theme of the story. This is why reading the graphic novel, once defeats the purpose of the act of reading Watchmen. As the plot thickens, readers are drawn into an intellectual challenge to put the pieces of the puzzle together to fully grasp the depth of the novel.
It is important to note that the novel could not be addressed people who are not familiar with the genre of comic. Appreciating the depth of this comic genre requires knowledge and exposure to other novels graphs. From Watchmen is a reading difficult, it is easy for someone not familiar wit the world of comics that is lost in the ebbs of symbolism and themes.
Watchmen is a great alternative to comic fans tired of the usual fly-two-shoes and perfect hero stories. Although this is difficult to decipher for beginners, for lovers of comics, this is a knockout.
