Femme Fatales

Well, no wonder that when the camera was invented, around 1830 or so, the naked girl appeared. And so in my opinion, the pin up was born! At first, these Victorian Nude "pin up" photos were called artist models, and are mainly sold this purpose. However, it was not long for Victorian gentlemen to catch, and there you have it, the erotic vintage is born.

I could say that pin up art had its beginnings long before, as artists have been representing idealized female nude in painting and sculpture for hundreds of years. That may be an issue opinion.

However there is no doubt that when the camera came to these Victorian ladies were naked and ethereal goddesses and allegorical figures. Contemporary women were often looking directly at the viewer, and use of contemporary apparel and lingerie. This was very shocking! Suddenly, the viewer had This intimate look keyhole Real scantily clad pin up girls!

The French began to exploit this new photography pinup idea very early and began mass producing these vintage erotic nudes. They were never actually sent through the mail, but they were called postcards because of their size appropriate. They were sold and collected in sets. As soon as the civil war soldiers were caught with these risque pin up girl daguerreotypes.

In addition, many prostitutes Paris during this period have made postcards with images of themselves, and would use the cards as advertising their services.

The peak sensual art of French postcard was approximately from 1900 to the 1920s, and tourists from around the world back from France with those bad memories, this picture vintage pinup!

Stacy Lande is a Los Angeles based artist, and her pin up art is most often placed in the lowbrow category. Her book, THE RED BOX, from Last Gasp press, features introductions from Robert Williams and Frank Kozik. Stacy has had a lifelong obsession with pin up girls, and her erotic paintings explore the more allegorical side of pinups. Her subjects are femme fatales and devil girls, and her fascination with the succubus has prompted her work to be described as “predatory pinups”. Stacy’s paintings have been featured in magazine articles, notably Juxtapoz, Detour, and Hot Rod Deluxe; films, notably Gone in 60 Seconds starring Angelina Jolie and Nicholas cage; and art books, such as Weirdo Deluxe, from Chronicle Books, and Vicious, Delcious, and Ambitious, from Schiffer Books.

Carmen Jones

Carmen Jones

$3.63

Few actresses have captivated the camera as powerfully as Dorothy Dandridge in Carmen Jones. Her polished beauty plays in irresistible contrast to her title character’s leonine sexuality and fluid emotions; a man can’t decide from moment to moment if he wants to save her from doom, build her a castle, or never let her out of bed. Of course, that’s the problem with the boys in this semi-experiment…
