Concept
The renowned Italian Renaissance artist Michelangelo Buonarroti (1475-1564) sculpture is a masterpiece of the Florentine Pieta time. It was one part only because it was the only work that Michelangelo ever signed.
History
It was commissioned by the French cardinal Jean de Billheres (1400-1499) as his funerary monument. A new theme for Italian art, it took less than two years to complete in 1499. Shown for the first time in the chapel of Santa Petronilla, a Roman mausoleum, near the south transept of San Pedro. Mercy was first developed in Germany, soon gained fame and popularity in Italy, France, Poland and Central Europe. His version in St. Peter's Basilica, Vatican City, Italy, is the most popular to date Pity. The statue is here from the XVIII century. In subsequent years, Piedad received several physical injuries, including four broken fingers of the Virgin Mary. Giuseppa Lirioni restored it in 1736. Piedad was hardest hit on May 21, 1972, when a geologist mentally misbalanced tried to break the sculpture with a hammer. Several parts of the sculpture were injured. Nose even Mary was destroyed and had to be rebuilt. Soon after, the sculpture was sent to become the main attraction for the Vatican Pavilion at the 1964 World Fair in New York.
The representation
A fine blend of classical and Renaissance naturalism, the statue depicts a man full grown resting on the lap of a woman. Jesus man is dead after the Crucifixion and the woman is his grieving mother Mary.
Structure
Measuring 174 cm × 195 cm (68.5 "x 76.8") structure marble is pyramidal, with the vertex coincides with Mary's head. The statue is flared at the bottom with pieces of clothing of Mary, which covers much part of your body. The base is formed in the rock of Golgotha. Jesus' body bears the marks of small nails symbolize the wounds of the crucifixion.
The essence
The relationship of the two figures is described as very natural. The young and beautiful Virgin Mary with her incorruptible purity has shown cradling the body and looking sad Jesus died. Mary's youthful appearance and apparently serene facial expression together with the position of arms and natural look real. Mary is considered the most near God is the creator of beauty. Therefore, the outside has been depicted as beautiful and young. The small size of Jesus symbolized the weakness associated with death. It represents the freshness of youth, apparently God preserved His grace and blessings.

Can I submit digital artwork AP Art Workshop?
I have a tablet color and I like things in photoshop, are fully digital parts have to be allowed or traditional media? I'm not talking about copying anything, just up on the basis of the computer.
Never heard talk about it. AP Studio Art offered in my school and all through traditional means. However, you could always ask an AP art teacher or check the website of College Board, may be policy there.
